Самая опасная дичь, The Most Dangerous Game; Белый зомби, White Zombie; Уродцы, Freaks: Кинг Конг, King Kong; Франкенштейн, Frankenstein и пр.). то по своему качеству он не достоин сравнения с ними. Много незаслуженных похвал выпало на долю игры Чарльза Лотона - своеобразного ледяного шута, на сей раз на удивление безжизненного (что же до Лугоши в небольшой роли, то его игра - откровенная клоунада). Только пролог на торговом судне (Эрлу К. Кентону повезло снять его в настоящем тумане у берегов о. Каталина) прекрасен и наполнен духом приключений; то есть лучшая сцена фильма парадоксальным образом разворачивается не на острове доктора Моро.В то время было невозможно продемонстрировать опыты Моро более конкретно, а потому авторы фильма были вынуждены прибегать к приему умолчания; это, несомненно, подстегнуло воображение некоторых зрителей (и в самом деле, какая доза воображения требуется, чтобы приписать животное происхождение женщине-пантере, которую играет Кэтлин Бёрк).
